The internet hadn’t been around long before we all knew to laugh at the statement, “I read it on the internet, so it has to be true.” It has been a given since the fall that someone merely saying something doesn’t mean it’s true. It follows that someone merely typing something doesn’t make it true. All kinds of issues influence what we choose to believe. Sometimes we trust the source, sometimes we fall into the trap of confirmation bias. Sometimes we have heard something enough times that our doubt falls away and we accept things as fact simply by wealth of repetition.
The good news is that truth exists outside of us. The bad news is that truth exists outside of us, and the tongue (therefore the keyboard) is difficult to tame.
